Rails Hugger Denies Lautrec Brother
22-Sep-2009

Well-related filly Index Hugger upset a plunge on Toulouse Lautrec"s three-quarter-brother Atelier when winning at Warwick Farm today.

Index Hugger is prepared by Rick Worthington and was a $200,000 purchase out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.

She is by Danzero and is one of five winners from the Marauding mare Indexed.

Other progeny of Indexed include the Listed winning Gr2 placed Flying Alpha, seven times winner Daedalus and multiple Hong Kong winners Sunny Golf and Happy Winning.

Indexed is from the Gr3 winner Zedagal, who in turn is from the great producer Summoned, whose progeny were headlined by Champion performer and outstanding stallion Zeditave and Gr3 winner Alannon (in turn the sire of the dual HKJC International Sprint winner Favelon).

It is also the family of this season"s Gr2 Furious Stakes winner Melito, Champion NZ filly Shikoba and South Africa"s Champion Colt Greys Inn.

Index Hugger secured a beautiful rails run and was able to hold off Atelier, with Worthington declaring it was a welcome change of luck for the filly after a frustrating run of outs in her previous two outings.

This was her second win in four starts after scoring easily on debut at Wyong last month.

Atelier was heavily backed to start a fractional odds favourite at his debut.

The Gai Waterhouse trained colt was sold through the Kitchwin Hills draft at last year"s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $550,000.

He is by Redoute"s Choice from the Varick mare Dancing Colour, making him a three-quarter-relation to Queensland Derby winner and later outstanding steeplechaser Toulouse Lautrec (Danewin).

Pre-race, Waterhouse flagged Derby ambitions for Atelier and the colt lost no admirers in the way he hit the line over 1400m after striking traffic problems early in the straight.
