The Classifications committee concluded the Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) produced the best performance of the season, with the winner Phelan Ready (More Than Ready-Nancy Eleanor, by Blevic) rating 115 in his dominant victory over a high quality field; Phelan Ready was a $150,000 yearling consigned by Kitchwin Hills at the 2008 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast. Gr1 winners Manhattan Rain and Onemorenomore were next on 114, ahead of Reward For Effort & Real Saga on 112. The leading 2YO filly was Headway on 107 (when runner up to Phelan Ready in the Golden Slipper), followed by fellow fillies Black Caviar and More Joyous on 106. The best performance by a New Zealand trained 2YO was produced by The Heckler, achieving a rating of 106 in winning the Gr1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes (1400m).
