Dane Shadow Son Takes Out Inglis Challenge
18-May-2009

Hewentwhoosh, a son of leading first season sire Dane Shadow unleashed an undeniable finish to win the 2009 William Inglis Challenge, a race for graduates of the 2008 Scone yealing sale at the Scone Cup racemeeting last Friday. Hewentwhoosh picked up $60,000 for winning the Challenge to take his career prizemoney earnings past $100,000. A terrific return for connections on the $4,500 that he cost them as a yearling.

Starting as one of the favorites in the race, Hewentwhoosh was ridden close to the pace by a supremely confident Glyn Schofield. Approaching the final bend after a trouble free run he was then popped out to make his challenge. On straightening the race was over in a matter of strides as Schofield let Hewentwhoosh have his head, he the proceeded to put 3 lengths on the field and make the race a one horse act as he coasted to the line.

Trainer Brett Thompson now has his eyes on a Brisbane campaign with the QTC Sires Produce (1400m, Gr.2) as his primary target and perhaps a T.J Smith Stakes (Gr.1) should he run well in the Sires.
