Patronyme Bolts in for Triple Crown
17-Apr-2009

Four year-old More Than Ready (USA) mare Patronyme made her long awaited return to the race track yesterday at Warwick Farm.

Due to a tendon sheath injury, it had been nearly two years since she made her race track debut at Canterbury where she won in sizzling style by nearly three lengths ahead of a smart field which included the likes of subsequent stakes winner Isurava and the Group Two placed Seething Duck. She set a class record that day on debut which still stands today.

Yesterday Triple Crown Syndications" Patronyme returned bigger and better than ever with a dominant victory by nearly four lengths this time.

Returning after a two year lay off on a heavy eight track is a tough ask of any horse however nobody told Patronyme or "Apache Pat" as the stable affectionately call her.

After jumping from the widest barrier she was forced to sit three wide throughout however after rounding the turn, jockey Corey Brown let her balance up before pushing the button and away she went with a scintillating turn of foot to score the most convincing of wins by a widening margin.

Triple Crown"s Chris Ward was thrilled with her return - "During her time off we had to ask her owners to stay patient because we knew she"s a special mare. To see her return like that and on a heavy track, it was very satisfying and a great thrill. Joe Pride has done a fantastic job with her and the wait was certainly worth it".

Trainer Joe Pride said after the race that "she has plenty of improvement which is the scary thing. She"s a very talented mare this one.

Jockey Corey Brown reported that " she was very impressive. She lengthened really well and she won as she liked. It was a really, really strong win".

Patronyme was a $70,000 purchase by Triple Crown Bloodstock from the draft of Kitchwin Hills at the 2006 Magic Millions Sale and is from the metropolitan winning Zeditave mare Descendant.
