From The Paddock

From The Paddock is our regular newsletter, which focuses on
following the progress of Kitchwin Hills bred horses as they
hit the racetracks of Australia and beyond. We also highlight
happenings on and off the farm as they come to hand.

Classic Sale Wrap

Kitchwin Hills has completed another successful renewal of
the William Inglis Classic Sale which concluded Tuesday.
Finishing the sale as leading vendor, Kitchwin sold 5 of 6
at an average of $67,000. This nearly tripled the final sale
average of $25,000.

Highlighting the draft was a General Nediym half-sister
(pictured) to the Magic Millions winner Phelan Ready.
Always going to be at the top of most buyers’ lists she was
eventually knocked down after spirited bidding to Nathan
Tinkler’s Patinack Farm for $220,000, which ended being the
highest price of the 3 days.

The sale finished down on last year’s final figures but given
the present economic climate William Inglis would have to be
relieved with how things went. Average and median were only
off 20% and the clearance rate down 10%. This sale compared
favorably with the New Zealand Select Sale, another second
tier event, which ended down some 41%.

Star Shadow-Dane Shadow/Star Hussar, impressed jockey Blake Shinn who
commented, Gee she has good ability and is a real runner. The filly
matched strides over 600m with Stage Performer - Encosta de Lago/Tropical
Affair, with the pair recording 35.7s for the 600m and 11.3s for their
final 200m. Quote courtesy of Gai Waterhouse’s website.

Race The Shadows-Dane Shadow/ Ta Ta by Royal Academy, trialed Tuesday
February 10 at Warwick Farm. His trainer Mark DeMontfort is full of
praise and is happy with the way he handled the whole affair. The colt
started off slowly and rattled home to win the 815 metre trial by 1.5
lengths. Mark informs us that the horse walked back following the trial
as though nothing much had happened and proceeded to eat up last night,
which just goes to confirm Mark’s opinion that he is a very level headed,
tough individual.  Mark will give him one more trial or possibly a race
start; either way following that, the paddock will be his next stop.
