| Magic Millions 2YO Classic triumph for young Hunter Valley Stud 14-Jan-2009 |

Kitchwin Hills, a stud along the Pages River east of Scone established by the Brown family, has only been functioning a short time, but they had the satisfaction of seeing their KWH brand carried into first and fourth places in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Bred for a client, the winner at the long price of 100-1 is Phelan Ready, another brilliant youngster by More Than Ready, a shuttle sire at the Vinery Stud in the Segenhoe Valley near Scone not far from Kitchwin Hills. On top of this the fourth placegetter in the $2 million race, Shadow Assassin, is from the first crop of the Kitchwin Hills Danehill sire Dane Shadow. It was an impressive effort by Shadow Assassin as he ran into trouble on several occasions. Also supplier of the winner and third placegetter in the juvenile event at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and of Kitchwin HIlls yearlings that sold to $280,000 at last weeks Gold Coast sale, Dane Shadow looks set to have several good prospects for this years Golden Slipper. It is a race in which Saturdays Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Phelan Ready, a gelding trained at Queenslands Sunshine Coast by the partnership of Bruce McLachlan and his son Jason for Rembrandts Racing Syndicate and W. Harris, could also be competitive. The Magic Millions win provided Phelan Readys sire More Than Ready with his second successive success in the race, Australias second richest juvenile test, as he was responsible also for last years winner, the filly Augusta Proud. She finished ninth in the Golden Slipper taken out by the More Than Ready champion Sebring, a colt booked to go stud at Widden. Sold by Kitchwin Hills at last years Magic Millions yearling sale at the Gold Coast for $150,000, Phelan Ready is from Nancy Eleanor, a winner of the Adelaide Guineas, a sister by Blevic to dual Listed winner Stillme and half-sister to Baughurst, a winner of nine races, including the MRC Coongy Handicap and Werribee Cup.
