From The Paddock

A Grateful Kitchwin Hills

The team at Kitchwin were very pleased to see as beautiful a day as you could imagine present itself last Saturday for our inaugural D-Day. Breeders visiting Kitchwin, 277 in total, admired two of the Hunter Valley"s more exciting stallion prospects. Kitchwin will never be competing with the big studs and we didn"t try to do that on Saturday. We know our breeders were as relaxed as Dane Shadow and Duporth are in the Kitchwin atmosphere and we want you all to know how grateful we are that you could find the time to visit.  Whether you use Dane Shadow or Duporth with your breeding this year, we wish you every success.

Quotes on the Day

Tara Madgwick - Breednet

"To be honest, these stallions don"t require a lot of hype as they sell themselves and are priced attractively. Dane Shadow is a far more impressive horse in the flesh than his early photos suggest and there would be breeders who were swayed into booking based on what they saw. Anybody who saw Duporth at the races knows that he is an impressive looking thoroughbred and it"s not hard to imagine what he will look like when he really starts to let down. Dark brown to near black in colour with a distinctive white splash on his forehead, Duporth has the powerful muscular physique of the serious hard core sprinter. Pedigree wise he is very appealing to the owners of Danzig line mare as his sire Red Ransom (USA) and dam-sire Success Express (USA) have both worked well with the line and his grand-dam Cinerama brings another positive in Bletchingly in the equation through her sire Best Western".

"Kitchwin Hills are in the enviable position of offering two stallions that can cover the needs of most commercial breeders in that one (Dane Shadow) has the Danehill blood that is so highly prized and the other (Duporth) is the outcross which the owners of Danehill line mares are seeking - so essentially they are a one stop shop".

Richard Haynes - TVN

"Congratulations again on a sensational open day on Saturday. I have been involved in a couple of them and this one had by far the best vibe and feeling about it. Everyone seemed to have a good day and most importantly they were impressed by the stallions."

Sheamus Mills - Bloodstock Agent

"My clients and I would like to thank Kitchwin Hills and their staff for a fantastic day last Saturday. They have a way of producing a family type atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome.

Dane Shadow has firmly established himself in the upper echelon of stallions in Australia while I found Duporth particularly impressive. You can see a good dose of both Red Ransom and Success Express in him - both highly successful stallions.

He"s only got to produce types anywhere near himself and he will be hugely popular".

Magic Millions June Sale

Kitchwin are off again, this time heading north to the Magic Millions National Broodmare, Weanling and Yearling Sale. The sale starts with weanlings on the 26th May and finishing (maybe with divorce) 8th June with the yearlings.   We will be selling some well credentialed bloodstock, a mixture of mares, weanlings and yearlings - all up 30 horses.  Bo will be mistress of the marquee again this year so make sure you visit for a beverage or two!

Lot 108 - A weanling colt by Dane Shadow from the Rubition mare Ruby Ring. Ruby Ring is a half-sister to Stone Canyon (Fernhill stakes winner) and city winning juvenile Shadow Miss (by Dane Shadow) but more importantly is a half-sister to the very promising 2YO with Anthony Cummings, Shadows In The Sun.  This impressive $280,000 yearling colt purchased by Anthony Cummings at the 2008 Magic Millions (see photo on right) is nominated for the Group 1 TJ Smith next month off the back of a fantastic run in the Champagne Stakes Gr1 when he clocked the fastest last 400 of the day, running 2nd to Skilled. Lot 108 is a 3/4 brother to Shadows In The Sun.

Lot 1140 - Ducks (Woodman (USA)/Elizabeth Drake (GB))  In foal to Red Ransom, Ducks is a lovely feminine mare and has proven her ability to produce a high quality individual with each foal she has had to date. Ducks is a half-sister to the Group 1 winning war horse - Northern Drake, and her page is saturated with black type. Her 3 foals consist of two Starcraft"s and a Commands filly (see photo on right - Ducks/Starcraft colt - 1st foal $350,000), a great start for any mare!

Lot 1131 - Constanza (Commands (AUS)/Extradite (AUS).  This mare by Commands is out of the outstanding family of Extradite, Twiglet, Easy Rocking, Fairy King Prawn, etc puts Constanza in a great position going forward. In foal to "stallion of the moment" Lonhro, Constanza has a lot to offer, glancing through the Australian Stud book and looking at half-sisters and mares closely related its amazing how much support this family will receive over the coming years. Covering stallions close up include - Dehere, Redoute"s Choice, Fastnet Rock, Stratum, Flying Spur, Commands, Zabeel and the list goes on.
