There is no better indicator of a stallion’s worth than his ability to upgrade the progeny of the mares that visit him, and that’s where Dane Shadow is excelling.

Internationally respected thoroughbred ratings authority, Timeform, has rated Dane Shadow as the top stallion in Australia and New Zealand with a median rating figure of 87 for his runners after the first half of the 2009/10 racing season.

Mares that have runner by Dane Shadow, have a median rating figure of only 70 for their runners by other stallions – that’s a massive 17 ratings-point upgrade.

Dane Shadow’s 35 runners have resulted in seven horses rating above 100, or a significant 20% of his runners – and this figure puts him second on the percentage list behind Shamardal (21.1%). This rating compares with Fastnet Rock (18.9%), Encosta De Lago (12.9%), Lonhro (10.2%), Redoute’s Choice (10.1%) and Street Cry (5.3%).
