Magic Millions 2010 Highlights
It’s hard to believe that the Magic Million’s preparation starts on the 28th of this month, it only seems like yesterday we were at the sales. With Bess Lamont, our yearling manager, home from her fact finding mission to the UK having worked for Watership Down preparing yearlings for the past 4 months (see picture above) , it"s full steam ahead. Bess’s enthusiasm and love of what she does is infectious. Also, now that she’s home, I don’t have to answer her countless questions via email regarding her yearlings - she can see for herself! Over the coming weeks we will feature the Magic Million’s entrants starting from the top alphabetically. Listed below is the Magic Millions draft which is yet to be set in concrete but we have the word it’s the definitive list. Asia Winds/Danzero (pictured below as a weanling) – Asia Winds is by the amazing broodmare sire Machiavellian. Shamardal, Red Rocks and our very own Shania Dane are out of Machiavellian mares to mention but a few. Asia Winds herself is a winner of three races, two of them as a 2YO. This filly, by the great Danzero who has also left us the Magic Millions Golden Slipper double winner Dance Hero and Fairway (Australian Derby Gr1), Niconero (Australian Cup Gr1), Jymcarew (Canterbury Guineas Gr1) etc. This filly looks a tough running type that has plenty to offer the Aussie market.
Best Out West/Dane Shadow (pictured below as a foal) – This is the full sister to the promising brother and sister combination Shadows In The Sun (2yr Dane Shadow) & Shadow Miss (3yr Dane Shadow). Shadows In The Sun, who was purchased this year at the Magic Millions for $280,000 by Anthony Cummings, debuted last weekend at Randwick with an eye catching fast finishing 3rd, and has been put away for his tilt at the Magic Millions 2yr old race in January 2010. This mare has already produced smashing types that have been publicly sold but you will go a long way to see a better filly than this year’s offering and we’re very much looking forward to selling this one.
Bethpage/Pins (pictured below as a weanling) – This Pins colt is a lovely individual with a great presence about him. He carries great bone and is very strong throughout so he will have many admirers. From the winning Flying Spur mare Bethpage, a half sister Group 3 winner "Blimey O’Reilly". This will be the first yearling by the sire Pins that Kitchwin has prepared and this bloke is a great start.
Provisional Magic Millions Draft for 2010 Sale 6th - 10th January 2010. Prep starts 28th October 2009. Asia Winds/Danzero 08 Filly Foal of the Week
Foal of the week is this big leggy colt from Dancing Colour by Danewin which means this bloke is a full brother to the Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Toulouse Lautrec. This colt has, like Toulouse, been bred and will be raced by Hobartville Stud. Congratulations Grahame and the Hobartville team.
