Partner Decided for Dam of Takeover Target
23-Oct-2009

Broodmare of the Year Shady Stream, the dam of star gallopers Takeover Target and Predatory Pricer, is set to visit one of the young up and coming sons of Danehill this season.

The horse selected to partner the star producer is Kitchwin Hills" young gun Dane Shadow, who is busy covering a full book at a fee of $16,500.

Another winner for Dane Shadow

It"s hard to imagine that there would be any day that Kitchwin Hills" co-owner Steve Brown wouldn"t be cheering a Dane Shadow winner, but that was the case when Shadow Minister broke through at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Kitchwin Hills" stud manager Mick Malone said Brown didn"t know whether to laugh or cry when Shadow Minister outgunned his impeccably-bred mare Bidthemobgooday in the 2000m maiden. Bidthemobgooday is by Reset from the Group 1 winning mare Tully Thunder, and from the family of Roman Emperor and Black Mamba.

"That"ll teach him to take on a Dane Shadow; he won"t want to show his face around the stud for a while because we won"t miss a chance to remind him," Malone said.

Shadow Minister was having just her fourth race start. She is the first of the Dane Shadow progeny to win over a distance, and Kitchwin Hills" young stallion can now boast winners from 1000m to 2000m. And with the brilliant sprinter Shellscrape heading to Melbourne for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington - and in with a big chance of giving Dane Shadow his first Group 1 - who is to say we haven"t just seen a top class staying filly in the making with Shadow Minister.

And there is no reason why Dane Shadow won"t leave progeny that can excel at all distances - his sire Danehill produced Golden Slipper and Derby winners, while Dane Shadow"s dam Slight Chance was a champion filly, who won from the 1100m of the Kindergarten Stakes at two to the 2500m of the Group 1 VRC Oaks at three.

Shadow Minister is from the Dehere mare Zabere, who is out of Zabori, by Zabeel. Her performance at Hawkesbury was such that trainer Garry White is likely to aim her for the better staying races for fillies in the autumn.

Meanwhile, Brown is looking for other options with Bidthemobgooday - "in any race that there isn"t a Dane Shadow entered.

And One to Watch

Dane Shadow"s exciting second crop of foals are starting to run as 2YOs, and they look like emulated his wonderful first crop.

Shadows In The Sun (ex-Best Out West) was the topped price Dane Shadow in 2009, selling for $280,000 to Anthony Cummings at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sales. The smashing colt made his debut last Saturday at Randwick and produced an eye-catching, fast-finishing third.
