Excellent results at Magic Millions Broodmare Sale

Kitchwin Hills had a sale to remember at the just completed 2008 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast. Consigning a draft of twenty, Kitchwin ended up selling eighteen at an average of $146,750, which was nearly double the select session average of $85,893.

Amongst the consignment were two of the top ten mares sold in the catalogue, the regally bred Rory's Jester mare, Volted In and Group 1 producer They Say.

Magic Millions Mares Day-3: $825k They Say

John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud paid $825,000 for US-bred & US-winning 14-year-old mare They Say (Thirty Six Red-Americanrevelation, by Foolish Pleasure) served by champion Arrowfield Stud sire Redoute's Choice & consigned by Kitchwin Hills as agent. Both her foals to race so far are multiple winners: 7-time-winner Hasna was 2003 Australian Champion 2YO with victories in the Gr1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes, Gr1 Champagne Stakes, Gr2 Silver Slipper Stakes & Listed Heritage Stakes (plus placings in the Gr1 Golden Slipper, Gr2 Reisling Slipper Trial, Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes, Gr3 Roman Consul Stakes & Listed Widden Stakes) for $1,297,595 earnings; & 6-time-winner Cookstown Frankie (from 1000-1900m). Magic Millions Mares Day-3: $920k Volted In

Brett Howard (bidding on behalf of Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm) paid $920,000 for regally-related 6YO mare Volted In (Rory's Jester-Voltage, by Whiskey Road) served by Coolmore's 7-time Gr1-winning shuttler Rock Of Gibraltar & consigned by Kitchwin Hills as agent. Volted is a half-sister to Gr1-winners Drum & Anamato, as well as to the dams of fellow Gr1-winners Grand Armee & Dealer Principal. Patinack Farm director Roger Langley commented: "She's a really nice mare with a sensational pedigree. She's from one of the best families in the Stud Book. With her pedigree, she gives us great options with a number of our stallions." Langley said the fact the mare is carrying a September foal by Rock Of Gibraltar is an added bonus, noting: "Rock Of Gibraltar is doing the job as a sire: he's got a great stakes-winners-to-runners percentage. And Volted In also has a Red Ransom (currently an unraced 2YO filly) & 2 Redoute's Choice's (fillies born in 2006 & 2007) coming through as well. There is plenty of upside." (Jun 5)
